Their Fight May Be Off, But Jon Jones And Daniel Cormier Went To War On Twitter Last Night

If Jon Jones vs Daniel Cormier 2, whenever it happens, is half as intense as the war of words that they waged on Monday evening, we are in for a real treat.

Days after it was announced that Cormier had been forced to withdraw from his April 23rd date with Jones due to a leg-injury that he suffered in training, the two fighters made separate appearances on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani.

The current light-heavyweight champion was first-up and of course he managed to burrow his way underneath Jones’ skin by offering to aid Ovince St. Preux, the man who has stepped in to replace him at UFC 197, in his preparation over the coming weeks.

“Ovince can have my training camp,” said Cormier. “All paid for, right out of my checking account. Ovince St. Preux, if you want to come to San Jose, bud, you got a team in the American Kickboxing Academy that’s ready to support you”.

A little later, when he got his own chance to speak, Jones issued a cutting response.

“Daniel is an absolute coward who will never beat me,” began the former titleholder. “And I say that not from an arrogant place, I say that from a place where me getting my belt back means everything to me. I represent that belt as a big part of my life. It means everything to me. You know, me losing to ‘OSP’ should be the last thing he should want because if I were to somehow lose, he doesn’t get to avenge his only loss. Him inviting St. Preux to his training camp shows me that he is so grateful that he is not fighting me in three weeks”.

The exchanges didn’t cease there, however.

If The MMA Hour was the metaphorical club, Twitter became the street.
