Moments after Derrick Lewis scored a devastating knock-out of Gabriel Gonzaga, he was being called out on Twitter by another top heavyweight in Roy “Big Country” Nelson.
Lewis, who needed just 4:48 of the first round to finish Gonzaga, earned himself a $50,000 Performance of the Night Bonus. Nelson appeared to be sizing up all the heavyweight fighters on the card and chose Lewis, based on his performance.

Although Nelson seemingly had no preference, the Lewis fight has been talked about for some time now, and at one time was in the discussion for UFC 200 – which would surely be a fun fight as Nelson and Lewis are both renowned for their devastating knock-out power. While this one wouldn’t have any title implications, a win for Lewis would certainly see him heading in the right direction.
He is maybe only a couple of big wins away from a title shot, and beating Roy Nelson would certainly be considered a big win.
Lewis was put on the spot during the post fight press conference, when asked about Big Country’s tweet call-out. He responded by laughing and saying: “I haven’t heard anything yet but I will get on his ass as soon as we leave here.”
Lewis, who seemed jovial at the press conference, had a parting pop at Gonzaga having his back by saying: “His hair just feels like brillo pads, I got to get this guy off of me”.
“Its a fan friendly fight. Its going to be a great fight for me and my career”, Lewis said of the potential bout with Roy Nelson.
Whatever happens next for ‘The Black Beast’, he will have enjoyed his trip to Croatia and happy to have that POTN Bonus in his bank account heading home.
