Twitter: Daniel Cormier Accuses Jon Jones Of ‘Juicing’, Engages In War Of Words With Jimi Manuwa

Considering it’s a division that’s continuously criticised for lacking depth, Daniel Cormier is not short of interesting challengers for his UFC light-heavyweight belt.

‘DC’s next title defence will undoubtedly be against either a returning Jon Jones or the streaking Jimi Manuwa and earlier this week the former Olympic wrestler fired shots at both men on social media.

Following the UFC 210 official weigh-in fiasco, in which Cormier first missed weight then seemingly manipulated the scales by pushing down on a towel to make the 205-pound limit on a second attempt, Jon Jones claimed it was one of the dirtiest things he’d ever seen in sports. The former undisputed light-heavyweight champion is not one to keep his opinions to himself and on Thursday Jones reminded Cormier of his deceitful tactics by posting this photo on Instagram.

Cormier did not respond to the above image directly but chose to obliquely insult his greatest rival by responding to a fan’s tweet.

“I hope @JonnyBones  knocks you out” wrote the fan.

‘DC’ laughed off the chances of that happening by suggesting that Jones has never possessed knockout power and even accused the troubled star of taking performance enhancing steroids in his rebuttal.

Statistics suggest that Cormier may have a point about Jones’ striking power. The Jackson-Wink fighter’s last four bouts have all been unanimous decision victories and of his last eleven fights he has only finished two by TKO (via elbows and knees). His only two legitimate knockout stoppages came way back in 2008.

Another man who was cageside at UFC 210 to witness Cormier’s emphatic victory is 37-year-old powerhouse Jimi Manuwa. ‘The Posterboy’ has looked sensational since losing to Anthony Johnson in September 2015, racking up two devastating knockouts of Ovince Saint Preux and Corey Anderson. Cormier acknowledged Manuwa’s presence during his post-fight interview but chuckled at the Londoner’s credentials.

However, it seems Manuwa might be making some progress in his attempts to secure a fight with Cormier next. He posted this photo with UFC president Dana White on his Twitter with the caption ‘Dana knows’, tagging the current champion also.

Cormier couldn’t resist the temptation to respond and the following Twitter war ensued.

Jones’ and Cormier’s rivalry is almost legendary at this stage but it looks like Jimi Manuwa is determined to make this a three way conflict. The Londoner has already bashed both men and there is sure to be plenty more back and forth between all three men, as we wait and see who’s next for the title shot.
