Conor McGregor has said that he will make his return to the UFC on January 18, 2020.
The Irish Mixed-Martial Arts fighter made the announcement at a press conference in Moscow on Thursday. He did not reveal the identity of his opponent for the bout due to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
McGregor has not been in the Octagon since his fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229 in October 2018. The 31-year-old lost by submission to Khabib before a brawl broke out at the event.
MMA journalist Ariel Helwani has reported that the “two leading candidates” to fight McGregor in January are Donald Cerrone and Justin Gaethje.
McGregor stated at the press conference on Thursday that he would like to fight the winner of Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal – ideally the latter, as he would like to another bout against Diaz to complete a trilogy of fights against him.
He then said he would like to fight the winner of Tony Ferguson and Nurmagomedov in Moscow.
