What a year it has been for Conor McGregor. After a shock loss to Nate Diaz, at UFC 196, the weight-jumping Irishman secured redemption in a remarkable battle at 202.
If that wasn’t enough, he followed it up with a championship fight victory over Eddie Alvarez to become the first fighter to simultaneously hold two belts within the promotion. Having broken all previous records, the UFC is enjoying the fruits that go with their most famous fighter.
Therefore, it is little surprise that his popularity is at an all-time high in his native Dublin. Having recently scooped the RTÉ Sports Person of the Year award, McGregor is clearly the most famous athlete in the country.
Last night, two fans of McGregor engaged in a mock fight on the streets of Dublin, while reciting the Notorious One’s famous line “you’ll do nothing”.
Little did they know that McGregor was passing by in a car, which stopped and he rolled down a window to talk to the pair.
It was mainly a reaction of shock, and who can blame them? The raw coincidence that the very man they were imitating happened to be passing by is remarkable. McGregor, for his part, seemed to enjoy the entire experience thoroughly.
