Has José Aldo Accidentally Revealed A UFC 205 Main Event Clash with Conor McGregor?

UFC president Dana White announces the final headline fight for the much publicised UFC 205 tomorrow and it appears that social media may have already figured it out.

Much has been made about a potential Conor McGregor – Eddie Alvarez clash, with both fighters reportedly keen on the fight. It seemed that the UFC’s return to New York was the perfect setting for such an incredible main event.

As both fighters traded barbs on social media, White, in an interview with Yahoo Sport, seemingly killed off any chance of another weight hopping adventure for McGregor, stating that he wants the Irishman to face José Aldo for the featherweight title.

UFC 194: Aldo vs. McGregor

Fans couldn’t be disappointed with such a match up as ever since McGregor’s decimation of the Brazilian at UFC 194 last December, a rematch was always on the cards.

Now, separate social media updates suggest that both featherweights could actually be in New York, less than 24 hours before the highly anticipated announcement.

McGregor has apparently been spotted in the Big Apple already, although there is very little to go on, merely the tweet below.

As for Aldo, the current interim featherweight champion posted this image to his Instagram account this morning.

Sitting in what appears to be an airport terminal and with the caption roughly translated as “It’s time to return”, along with some airplane emoji’s for good measure, speculation among MMA fans is that he too is New York bound.

With Dana White now publicly favouring a featherweight title fight between McGregor and Aldo, is fan speculation on the money? If the ‘Notorious’ is indeed in New York, a potential fight with either Aldo or Eddie Alvarez is possible.

However, if Aldo is New York bound, as his update certainly implies, it can only mean one thing – rematch!

Whatever Dana White has planned, he announces tomorrow.
