Rafael dos Anjos was one of the stand-out performers of UFC 215 at the weekend where he made a pretty emphatic statement about his welterweight title credentials.
Having made the jump up from the lightweight ranks following back-to-back defeats, the Brazilian, in his second fight at 170lbs, ripped through sixth ranked Neil Magny in the first round of the co-main event clash on Saturday.
In doing, dos Anjos firmly emphatically established himself as a contender in the division currently ruled by Tyron Woodley.
In the post-fight press conference, dos Anjos made a solid argument for a shot at Woodley and, on paper, it certainly does make for a tantalising encounter.
So, let’s assume for a minute that the pair does meet for the title and that the Brazilian emerges victorious. What happens next?
Remember when Conor McGregor was due to fight dos Anjos for the lightweight title all those moons ago? The 32-year-old does and has as recently as last week reiterated his desire to take on the Irishman.
Speaking to Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour, do Anjos insists he has unfinished business with McGregor,
“I believe I could put my hands on this guy one day and make that fight happen. I feel that we have unfinished business.
“I believe we have unfinished business. I was the champion at that time and I got hurt, I broke my foot. I think that fight is something for the future that I’m still thinking.”
Now, following dos Anjos’ resounding victory at UFC 215 and his march towards Woodley and a tilt at the title, Shaheen Al-Shatti of MMAFighting has postulated something truly intriguing.
If RDA ends up getting the shot at Woodley and winning… a certain Irishman may be interested in that WW belt. Could you imagine?

With McGregor’s endless desire to challenge himself and redefine the boundaries of his sport, plus with the continued interest the Brazilian has in facing the lightweight champion, could it be that the two could actually face off in the future, potentially for the welterweight belt?
We all thought a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather was impossible and look how that turned out. Maybe, just maybe, there could be something special on the horizon.
