After going through the ordeal that was the official ‘Mayweather/McGregor’ press conference, Conor McGregor also held a private presser and sat down for multiple interviews on Tuesday evening.
Although most journalists seemed entirely keen to focus on the ‘Notorious’ Irishman’s upcoming bout with Floyd Mayweather, UFC reporter Megan Olivi took her chance to remind McGregor that the night in question was the two year anniversary of his interim title bout with Chad Mendes.
On the 10th of July 2015, the SBG man severely struggled for two rounds against his American opponent before incredibly KO’ing Mendes with just seconds remaining in the second round.
It was the only time in his meteoric career that McGregor became extremely emotional in the public eye and, discussing the fight’s anniversary with Megan Olivi on Tuesday evening, the Dubliner admitted that it was probably the most significant moment in his UFC career.
‘Ya that was an amazing night, that was the one that probably stands out the most to me. Even more than the double belt. Just the first UFC gold, you know, it was the first time I became a multi-millionaire also.’
