Conor McGregor sometimes just can’t help but have a crack at former opponents.
Chad Mendes was suspended from the UFC for two years following drug allegations this week. The reputation of the American featherweight has plummeted after he was seen as one of the more likeable fighters on the promotion’s roster.
Mendes has not fought since December when he was knocked out by Frankie Edgar in Las Vegas, meaning he has lost three out of his last four fights.
Last July, he stepped in to replace the injured José Aldo and squared up against Conor McGregor for the interim featherweight title. While he enjoyed periods of dominance throughout the two rounds, Mendes was caught by the Irishman in the second round.
Commenting on the suspension in an exclusive with The Mac Life, McGregor was straight and to the point.
“I wonder was he on that stuff when we fought. One thing I know for sure tho, you can’t put steroids on your chin”
This jibe was in clear reference to the fact that Mendes crumbled when the Dubliner landed a left onto his chin.
McGregor is currently in camp for his next bout with Nate Diaz at UFC 202 on August 20 in Las Vegas.
