Conor McGregor Could Face Six Month Medical Suspension After UFC 194

McGregor knocked out Jose Aldo in just 13 seconds.

It seems that Conor McGregor may not have escaped completely unscathed from his blink and you’ll miss it affair with Jose Aldo on Saturday at UFC 194.

The list of medical suspensions resulting from the event has been released, and Conor McGregor’s name sits atop. Apparently, the Dublin fighter sustained damage to his left wrist whilst delivering the decisive blow to the unfortunate jaw of Aldo.

As a result, doctors have handed down a suspension that would see McGregor left on the sidelines until the 12th of June 2016. He will, however, be cleared for action before that date if he provides a negative x-ray of the injured area.

Given that John Kavanagh revealed Conor’s plan to fight for the UFC lightweight strap in either March or April on last night’s edition of The MMA Hour, the camp are obviously confident that no serious damage has been done.

Conor’s opponent, Aldo, has been suspended until the 11th of February and has been ordered to avoid any contact training until the 27th of January.

Elsewhere on the list, published by MMAFighting, new middleweight champion, Luke Rockhold, was handed the same suspension as Conor due to worries about the condition of his “left foot/ankle”. Again, Rockhold will be cleared upon producing a negative x-ray. His opponent Chris Weidman, who seems a far more obvious candidate for a doctor mandated suspension, will have to undergo x-rays on both feet in order to be cleared for action before June 12th. He has also been given an order to avoid contact until the 27th of January.

Conor’s training partner Gunnar Nelson only received a minor suspension, until January 27th, and has been advised to avoid contact until the 12th.
