UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor has commented on a left-field announcement he plans to make following his UFC 205 bout with Eddie Alvarez next month, stating, “it’s going to be big”.
Speculation regarding what McGregor will chime has become a major talking point in the sport over the past number of weeks, with talks of a hiatus from the Octagon, a possible newborn on the way, and other rumors running rife.
If your curiosity wasn’t hitting fever pitch already following comments first made by UFC president Dana White, the 28-year-old spoke to MMAJunkie recently and told fight fans and media that it’s going to be huge.
“Buy the pay-per-view and stay tuned,” McGregor told MMAjunkie. “Don’t blink. It’s going to be big.”
McGregor will look to become the first fighter in the promotion’s history to hold two division titles at the expense of Alvarez, the current lightweight champion. However, holding both belts will be short-lived according to White, who confirmed the Irishman will need to vacate one of the titles following the event.
While the details of the announcement remain a mystery, McGregor did point towards a positive outcome, in either the sport or in his personal life.
“It’s always positive with me,” McGregor said. “So all I’ll say is tune in.”
With Floyd Mayweather’s name surfacing again, Nate Diaz no doubt itching for a trilogy, and other ventures outside the sport available, who knows what McGregor will announce.
Let’s just hope in involves him in front of a camera either fighting or talking.
UFC 205 takes place on November 12th at Madison Square Garden arena in New York.
