Gunnar Nelson isn’t famous for smiling, but he managed to conjure one up today thanks to an epic birthday present from some top mates.
In the last few days Ireland’s adopted viking must have been feeling some frustration. He still hadn’t heard confirmation regarding the identity of his UFC Dublin opponent. The only news he was getting was about who it wouldn’t be. The two biggest names that were offered the fight, Demian Maia and Stephen Thompson, were both unfit to compete. Maia has a staph infection and, according to bloodyelbow.com, Thompson is “too banged up” to take the fight.
Luckily for “Gunni” he has some great friends, and they came to the rescue with a brilliant belated b-day gift.
The UFC welterweight, who’s birthday is actually July 28th, thanked his good buddy and training partner Conor McGregor, as well as UFC president Dana White, for the outlandish present.
The pressure is really on Gunnar now – what the hell is he going to get Dana and Conor when their birthday’s roll around? It’s going to have to be more than a fiver in a card, that’s for sure.
