Cody Garbrandt has been called out by an instagram famous bodybuilder in a strange turn of events on social media which may see the pair fight it out.
The UFC bantamweight champion was forced to withdraw from his eagerly anticipated first title defence against TJ Dillashaw, scheduled for July 8th at UFC 213, as a result of a back injury.
Since Dillashaw was informed that his fight was off he has been campaigning for a crack off a different champion in another weight-class. He has turned his attention to a scrap for the flyweight strap with its holder Demetrius “Mighty Mouse” Johnson, who is on a win-streak that has seen him equal the greatest number of championship defences in a row within the promotion.
Garbrandt is still keen to fight his ex-teammate, TJ, injury recovery willing in the future. However, Dillashaw isn’t so interested in waiting around for “No Love”.
When Cody expressed his standpoint on the matter on twitter last week, he drew a strong reaction from a corner no one would have seen coming:
Matthew Kline Kader, who also goes by Shallow King according to his Twitter handle, is a bodybuilder with over 120,000 followers and is kicking up quite a fuss. His blast provoked a reaction from the 135 lbs champ, check it out below:
Garbrandt then shared the address of his Team Alpha Male gym in Sacramento with Kader to call his bluff. From there things escalated rather quickly…
So, when Kader booked his own flight, this this story began to build some momentum…
He then produced this self-made promo video for the ‘fight’…
Kader seems hell bent on making this thing happen. He’s even designed his own fight posters…
What is going on?
Will we see Garbrandt throw down with Kader on June 25th? Highly doubtful. Head over to @shallowking to keep up the date with these bizzare unfoldings, because his persistence is showing how serious he is about this whole thing.
Let us not forget incidents in the past when professional fighters have granted internet trolls their wish of a scrap with them, most infamously Deontay Wilder.
