Video: Was The WWE Mocking CM Punk’s UFC Performance During This Segment At The Backlash PPV?

It appeared as though UFC welterweight and former WWE champion CM Punk was mocked at the WWE’s ‘Backlash’ event on Sunday, just one day after he was submitted in the first round of his MMA debut at UFC 203 in Cleveland.

Punk went right at opponent Mickey Gall from the get go, but this uneducated aggression left him open to a takedown. On his back after mere seconds, the Roufusport representative looked lost, ate multiple shots and subsequently tapped out to a rear-naked choke at the 2:14 mark.

The following night, WWE stars Dolph Ziggler and the Miz seemed to re-enact Punk’s ill-fated debut during their WWE Intercontinental championship match.

While this sequence was much shorter than Punk’s fight, it still bore a striking resemblance.

Punk has yet to respond to the WWE’s apparent parody but did confirm on Saturday that he plans to continue his MMA career despite his first professional loss.

“I definitely want to keep going,” Punk said at the post-fight press conference (via MMAFighting)

“I just fell off a bike. I’m not just going to shove it and leave it in the middle of the street. I’ve got to get back to the ride.”

However, UFC President Dana White admitted that Punk probably won’t have his next fight in the UFC but that he wanted to give the former WWE star a shot with MMA’s premier organisation.

“He probably shouldn’t have his next fight in the UFC,” White told Fight Network’s John Pollock after the event.

“Just like I said with Brock, having your first fight in the UFC is tough and you [saw] tonight, even if it’s against a guy who is 2-0. This is a tough place to learn.

“He’s a nice guy. I like him. I have a lot of respect for him and he wanted to give it a shot. I gave him his shot.”

White also confirmed that Sage Northcutt’s camp had reached out to White following Mickey Gall’s win and that Sage is also keen for the fight with Gall.

“After (Gall) called him out, Sage’s team hit me up and they want the fight, so we’ll make it happen,” said White(via MMAWeekly).
