Chael Sonnen ’s Top Ten Most Memorable Quotes

Chael Sonnen recently announced his retirement from MMA after a 17 year professional fight career. Over the years the former three-time UFC title challenger has had many memorable moments both inside and outside the famous octagon.

He is regarded by many fans as one of the best trash talkers the fight game has seen. With that being said here are some of Chael’s most memorable quotes:

10) Chael Sonnen on Anderson Silva during an interview with Ariel Helwani:

“Anderson’s a big bully. He goes out and says just the most ridiculous things. He challenges Frank Mir to a fight. He’s not qualified to make Frank Mir a sandwich, let alone qualified to get in there and fight with Frank Mir. There’s no Commission in the world that would sanction that beating.”

9) Chael on Anderson Silva during the post-fight press conference after defeating Brian Stann:

“In some parallel universe you can hit a man 300 times, he wraps his legs around your head for eight seconds and they call him the winner. On the streets of West Linn, Oregon, that is not the rules. I am the Middleweight Champion. I defended my Championship tonight for the first time and I am willing to give Anderson Silva a shot at the true belt, the linear belt, the people’s belt from the best damn middleweight there has ever been.”

8) Chael Sonnen on Jon Jones’ Nike deal during UFC Tonight:

“Nike has a long history of signing dorks and it looks to me like they just got one more.”

7) Chael during a pre-fight press conference in the lead up to his UFC 117 bout with Anderson Silva:

“I’m sore, tired, under the weather, over trained, under motivated and still tough enough to beat this guy.”

6) Chael’s comments when asked if he has a game plan to fight Mark Munoz during a pre-fight press conference prior to their scheduled bout. Munoz eventually withdrew due to injury and was replaced by Michael Bisping:

“I don’t plan for any of that stuff. I hear guys talk about game plans and footwork and strategy with their coaches and their gold teeth and their 8th grade educations and I don’t care about any of that. Mark Munoz is going to find out, and I do like him, but never piss off a gangster.”

5) Chael replies to a fan when asked if he would become a politician:

“I actually held public office and I left the only way a person should, in handcuffs.”

4) Chael Sonnen replies to a question on the UFC Fox deal at a pre-fight press conference:

“I think everyone up here is grateful to be on Fox. They would probably say Fox – thanks. Everybody but me. I would say you’re welcome. You’ve been telling people for years you’ve got the American Idol and now you finally do.”

3) Chael’s response to a Wanderlei Silva threat during an interview with Ariel Helwani in 2011:

“Wanderlei, you are an immigrant from Brazil. I am a gangster from America. Are you sure you wanna play that game with me? Listen Wanderlei, I will do a home invasion on you. I will cut the power to your house and the next thing you’ll hear is me climbing up your stairs in a pair of night vision goggles I bought in the back of Soldier of Fortune magazine. I’ll pick the lock to the master room door; take a picture of you in bed with the Nogueira brothers working on your ‘jiu-jitsu’. I’ll take said photograph, post it at, password – not required, username – not required. That Wanderlei is how you threaten someone, dummy!”

2) Chael challenging Anderson Silva, after his victory over Michael Bisping:

“Anderson Silva you absolutely suck! Super Bowl weekend, the biggest rematch in the history of the business. I’m calling you out Silva but we’re upping the stakes. I beat you, you leave the division. You beat me; I will leave the UFC forever.”

1) Chael describes, “what he saw” during the Nogueira Brothers first visit to America during an interview with Ariel Helwani:

“I was in Las Vegas when the Nogueira brothers first touched down in America. There was a bus that pulled up to a red light and Little Nog tried to feed it a carrot, while Big Nog was petting it. He thought it was a horse.”
