Canelo Alvarez Absolutely Slates Prospect Of Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather

Canelo Alvarez has slated the possibility of a Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight stating that the discussion is disrespectful to the sport of boxing.

Canelo Alvarez is currently regarded as one of the greatest boxers in the world with the Mexican’s only loss coming to Floyd Mayweather back in 2013.

Alvarez has gone onto win every bout since then and at present, the most anticipated fight in the sport is between himself and the undefeated Gennady Golovkin. However, much like the Manny Pacquiao vs Floyd Mayweather bout, it seems like Alvarez vs GGG is proving very complicated to negotiate.

At present, the 26-year-old is due to face Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on the 6th of May. However, it seems that despite the fact that there are a number of intriguing boxing bouts approaching in the coming months, the majority of the media are obsessing over a potential super-fight between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather.

Speaking about the furor surrounding the proposed bout, Alvarez slated the mere prospect of the fight taking place, claiming that it was ‘disrespectful’ to the sport of boxing.

‘I think it’s a joke,’ said Canelo. ‘It’s disrespectful to boxing… Mayweather is retired.’
