In a strange turn of events UFC fighter CB Dollaway, who was scheduled to fight on tonight’s UFC 203 card, has had to withdraw from the event due to an injury he suffered when the elevator he was in went into freefall. The incident happened last night at a Cleveland hotel.
Though it is unclear just how dramatic the fall was, it was significant enough for Dollaway to sustain a back injury. After meeting with doctors, he was subsequently ruled out of competing. He was due to face Brazilian Francimar Barroso.
“UFC announced that CB Dollaway has had to withdraw from his scheduled bout at UFC 203 due to an injury he suffered last night as a result of an elevator accident at a hotel in Cleveland. UFC officials have been in communication with hotel management, and the hotel is currently evaluating and investigating the issues surrounding the incident.”
Strangely, this is not the only elevator accident to have taken place at this hotel in the past 24 hours. Several UFC fighters, including Fabrício Werdum and Urijah Faber, were stuck in one for approximately 10 minutes before staff could free them. No injuries are believed to have taken place in that incident. Faber documented the odd situation on his social media platforms.
Thankfully everyone seemed to take the delay in good spirits!
