On Monday afternoon, Twitter went into overdrive as the Nevada Athletic Commission confirmed the news that Floyd Mayweather had booked the MGM Grand for August 26th.
Although some were sceptical that the reservation had anything to do with the proposed Conor McGregor bout, it was later confirmed that the event would be aired on Showtime giving legs to the theory that the booking would be headlined by the proposed ‘super fight’.

Only last week, former Nevada journalist of the year, John Katsilometes, reported that the bout would be happening far sooner than anyone expects and, addressing Mayweather’s August 26th booking, George Gigney of Boxing News stated that no other fighter on Mayweather’s team “could legitimately headline a Showtime card at the MGM Grand”.
As such, it does seem highly likely that Mayweather and McGregor have earmarked the August date for their showdown. However, with the date so soon on the horizon, the Twitter reaction has been rather mixed with some still refusing to believe that the bout will ever take place.

Not necessarily – Mayweather-Pacquiao had 70 days between announcement and fight. If this is it, they'd have to announce this week surely.

If it’s not for May-Mac, I wonder who? That’s a big venue for any of his boxers. Unless Jack is debuting at 175 against Stevenson.
