Another massive middleweight match-up has been added to the tremendous UFC 194 card, which takes place December 12th in Las Vegas.
Though fans were disappointed to hear that the UFC were scrapping plans to feature their two biggest stars on the same card at UFC 194, most will be happy with the Ronda Rousey alternatives being offered up.
Last week a second title fight was added to the bill when it was announced that Chris Weidman would defend his middleweight title against Luke Rockhold. That won’t be the only major middleweight melee on the Vegas show, however.
The UFC have now confirmed that Cuban beast Yoel Romero and Brazilian submission specialist Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza will face off in a fight with title implications. The winner of this scrap will likely be next in line for the man who emerges as champion from the Weidman vs Rockhold bout, as Souza and Romero are ranked numbers 2 and 3 respectively by the UFC.
“Jacare” is riding an 8 fight win streak since a loss to Rockhold in 2011. The sensational run includes wins over Gegard Mousasi and Yushin Okami. With 16 of his 22 wins coming by way of submission he is one of the most dangerous grapplers on the planet.
Romero is himself on a 6 fight tear of victories, and last time out he claimed the most notable scalp of his career when he battered Lyoto Machida to a stoppage with a brutal barrage of elbows.
This is another top notch battle, and UFC 194 is being built into a truly spectacular card.
For those of you unfamiliar with this potent pair here are a couple of highlight reels to get you up to speed.
