Aisling Daly Forced To Withdraw From UFC Fight Night 93 Due To Knee Injury

SBG Ireland’s Aisling Daly has been forced to withdraw from UFC Fight Night 93 and a scheduled strawweight bout with Michelle Waterson due to injury.

MMAJunkie were first to report the news of Daly’s withdrawal and have confirmed with UFC officials that a search is under way to find Waterson, whose own injury woes have kept her out of action since July of last year, a replacement opponent for the Hamburg show.

The nature of Daly’s injury was unknown at the time of the initial report, but Peter Carroll of SevereMMA has since tweeted that a “small tear” of the posterior cruciate ligament(PCL) and a medial collateral ligament(MCL) strain have ruled the veteran fighter out of action.

It’s a tough blow for Daly, as the momentum that she had gained from a career best performance against Ericka Almeida last September in Dublin has all but ceased thanks to the lengthy spell of inactivity that followed. A bout with a big name and former Invicta FC champion like Waterson would have given ‘Ais the Bash’ the opportunity to propel herself forward once again, but instead she faces further time on the sidelines.

UFC Fight Night 93, which takes place on September 3rd, is headlined by a match-up of former UFC heavyweight champions in Andrei Arlovski and Josh Barnett. Elsewhere on the card, Sweden’s Alexander Gustafsson makes his first appearance since an unsuccessful challenge for Daniel Cormier’s light-heavyweight title last October when he faces Jan Blachowicz, and Ilir Latifi takes on Ryan Bader in another intriguing clash at 205lbs.
