Despite the fact that it will almost certainly never happen, there seems to be a growing interest in Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather actually squaring off inside the Octagon.
In recent weeks, Floyd Mayweather has dropped several Instagram posts teasing a potential MMA debut while Conor McGregor has continued to trade shots with the undefeated boxer on Instagram.
Although most (correctly) assume that Mayweather is simply using the Irishman’s name to remain relevant, some believe that there is a small chance that an MMA fight between the pair is actually going to happen.
Speaking about the potential bout on UFC Tonight on Wednesday, Dana White seemed to suggest that he was very open to getting the fight booked while he also claimed that Mayweather stated he would do both (boxing and MMA) in the build-up their first clash last August.
“Floyd said leading up to the fight with Conor that he would do both [boxing and MMA]. So we’ll see what happens. Obviously, the only way making that fight again makes any sense is if he comes into the Octagon.”
“We went over and boxed him, the UFC and Conor McGregor, and now it’s time for him to reciprocate and come and fight in the Octagon.”
On the back of the UFC President’s comments, one Vegas bookmaker has already released odds on an MMA bout between the pair with McGregor rather predictably being listed as the heavy favourite.
However, given the fact that most experts believe that McGregor should be a million to one on in such a contest, the odds are actually a little tighter than you’d expect.

Going off at just 1/9, McGregor would certainly be worth a heavy punt should this freakshow ever get booked. Given the fact that multiple bets in excess of $1 million were placed on Mayweather in the hours leading up to their August bout, the exact reverse situation would almost certainly unfold should a May/Mac MMA bout actually go down.
