Welterweight Curtis Millender booked his ticket to the UFC with back-to-back head-kick knockouts and he extended his streak of spectacular finishes in his promotional debut on Sunday night in Austin.
The left knee was the weapon that ‘Curtious’ Curtis used to get the job done on this occasion, finishing former UFC welterweight title challenger Thiago Alves via KO in the final minute of the second round.

The 30-year-old Millender was impressive throughout the fight, not just at the finish. He thoroughly dominated Alves in the first and the Brazilian was very lucky to survive. In fact, after he dropped Alves for the second time towards the end of the opener, Millender believed that the fight was over and briefly walked away with his hands aloft. Granting Alves this moment’s respite, Millender may have let the ‘Pitbull’ off the hook.
Amazingly, Alves recovered to do some damage with his vaunted leg kicks in the second, but despite limping ever so slighly as a result, Millender was able to find the conclusive blow before the veteran could gain any significant momentum.
Millender, who went 1-2 during a stint in Bellator MMA in 2015, has now won seven straight, four via KO/TKO. The rangy, 6’3 welterweight is certainly one to watch.
