On Monday evening, some hugely controversial rumours began to circulate with regard to the UFC’s lightweight champion, Conor McGregor.
Although there has been no concrete evidence confirming any of the conjecture, MMA fans have become seriously concerned about their Irish icon as McGregor has already been involved in two controversial sagas in the last two months alone.
In October, McGregor was forced to apologise after being recorded dropping a homophobic slur at a UFC event in Poland. Weeks later and McGregor was again in the news for all the wrong reasons as the Irishman appeared to push and slap two separate officials at a Bellator event after storming the cage to congratulate Charlie Ward on his victory at the Dublin show.
The amount of bad press circulating with regard to Ireland’s most notorious sports star has simply become impossible to ignore. It’s been over a year since Conor McGregor last set foot in the Octagon and, although a December return had been mooted, it now looks like a return to fighting is some way off with no prospective date even being discussed at present.
Now, with the negativity and criticism surrounding the MMA star hitting fever pitch, McGregor dropped a bizarre Instagram post in the early hours of Tuesday morning, appearing to cover his face like some form of criminal seeking to hide his identity.
