Watch: Donald Cerrone Succumbs To The Strikes Of Jorge Masvidal At UFC Denver

Saturday night certainly wasn’t one to remember for Donald Cerrone.

Undefeated as a welterweight, ‘Cowboy’ rode into UFC on Fox 23 on a four-fight winning-streak, with all four of those wins coming inside the distance. Competing in front of his home town crowd in Denver, Colorado, Cerrone hoped not only to extend that run to five straight but also to tie Michael Bisping’s record of 20 UFC victories.

It wasn’t to be for the 33-year-old veteran, though, as he was stopped inside two rounds by Jorge Masvidal.

The finish to the fight may end up being somewhat controversial, as Cerrone didn’t seem to be taking ferocious punishment when Herb Dean stepped in to call a halt to the action. However, when one considers the manner in which the first round came to a close, it’s much easier to understand why the veteran official stopped the contest.

A vicious combination at the end of that opening stanza sent Cerrone staggering back to his corner…

…and many felt that the fight should not have progressed to a second session.

When the second round commenced, rightly or wrongly, Masvidal didn’t let Cerrone off the hook. He jumped all over the Jackson-Wink fighter and forced the TKO with a vicious and varied barrage.

The win moves Masvidal to 3-0 in his last three fights. Cerrone will have to wait for another day to tie Bisping’s record, but given his level of activity, that day won’t be too far away.
