With wiley, calculating veteran Dominick Cruz relentlessly pushing his buttons, it seems as though the young and inexperienced Cody Garbrandt may be cracking under the pressure of his first world title tilt.
During an interview with The Fight Network on Wednesday, the pair began to discuss Cruz’s recent run-ins with Garbrandt’s girlfriend on social media. After some relatively innocuous back-and-forth, Garbrandt suddenly threatened to come and find Cruz, who was in a separate room. The Team Alpha Male fighter then jumped up and instructed members of the TV crew to remove his microphone.
Luckily, manager Ali Abdel-Aziz was there to talk Garbrandt out of doing anything that might jeopardise the fight.
Garbrandt did storm off without finishing the interview, however, and later in the clip Cruz claims that he can hear the 25-year-old throwing things around the corridor outside.
Cruz played down the significance of what appeared to be a psychological victory, saying, “There is no winning and losing in this. This is just telling the kid the truth.” But Cruz seems to have Garbrandt rattled.
