Eddie Alvarez Feels That Conor McGregor Can Be Easily Summed Up As A Fighter

Eddie Alvarez has made it known over and over again in recent months that he believes Conor McGregor lacks the attributes of a true championship fighter.

A lack of stamina and endurance, claims Alvarez, causes McGregor to gas after just eight minutes of action. A lack of heart, he asserts, forces the Irishman to quit shortly thereafter. That latter claim in particular seems somewhat baffling only a couple months on from the Irishman’s thrilling five-round war with Nate Diaz, but Alvarez has persisted.

The criticism hasn’t stopped there either.

The UFC lightweight champion has also belittled McGregor’s overall skill-set on numerous occasions as well. The latest example of this came during Alvarez’s appearance on the MMA Roasted podcast earlier in the week.

According to the well-travelled veteran, McGregor the fighter can be summed up rather easily.

“To me, he’s a left hand,” said Alvarez. “He’s just a guy with a left hand and that’s it. That’s how I see him.”

Eddie did express some admiration for one of the ways in which Conor sets up that left hand, but was quick to add that he has too much pugilistic savvy to fall into such a trap and that his team have plans in place to nullify the featherweight champion’s weaponry.

“He does something that we call in Philly a ‘rock back’ well,” said the American. “Mayweather does it. A lot of Philly fighters do it. [McGregor] lives and breathes off it. A lot of MMA guys don’t know about these boxing things that they do. This is something very simple. This is a move that’s very easily taken away and we’re going to dominate every step of the way.”

“Everything’s taken away with the proper preparation. I’m confident in my coaches, I’m confident in our gameplan and our ability to go out there and do it. We have already been doing 5×5[minute rounds], 6×5. We’re just following this gameplan step-by-step.”
