Cathal Pendred Out To Prove A Point

Cathal Pendred is looking to make a statement at welterweight on Saturday when he faces Gasan Umalatov in Stockholm.

Pendred, who recorded victory at UFC Fight Night Dublin at middleweight, is now fighting at welterweight and wants to prove that this is the division where he belongs.

Speaking to, Pendred said the following:

“I’m making my UFC debut in MY division. This is where I belong and where my future is. I want to make a statement in this fight that I am a serious contender within the division.”

Pendred is on the undercard of the Gunnar Nelson vs Rick Story fight and although he is aware of the threat posed by Umalatov, The Punisher fully focused on getting the victory.

“There are those who are great when things are going their way, but then they hit a rough patch and they wilt. I have always been the type of person that doesn’t let things not going my way affect me negatively.

“Umalatov seems to favour grappling, however, he is quite well-rounded. I’m not thinking of this fight in terms of the type of stylistic matchup though. I am just focusing on putting on a very impressive performance and making a statement.”

Pendred and Umalatov is on Saturday night.

Irish MMA fans are in for a treat this weekend, as Pendred’s fellow SBG fighters Paddy Holohan and the aforementioned Nelson are also in action.
