Tony Ferguson has issued a warning to lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov ahead of their lightweight title bout next year outlining that he feels he is in the undefeated fighter’s head.

The highly anticipated clash between two of the greatest the lightweight division has ever seen, was made official last week with the bout set for the main event slot of UFC 249 in April.

Ferguson is currently on a 12-fight win streak in the division while Khabib has still yet to be defeated in his professional MMA career, sitting at 26-0.

Speaking on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show, in quotes reported by MMAFighting.com, as he discussed the bout, Ferguson outlined that he believes he is in Khabib’s head and that he is going to “capitalise” on his opponent’s nerves.

“I’m in this dude’s head,” Ferguson said. “He’s looking at me. He’s going to train so hard, he’s going to be so nervous, and he’s going to make a mistake. I’m going to capitalize on that. I’m going to catch him during the scramble. Scrambled eggs, baby.

“I told everybody, I’m going to make him piss blood. I owe him two to the chops and he owes me 20 push-ups… This guy’s got an issue and his name is Tony Ferguson, and I’m coming after him. It’s hunting season, baby.”

The fight is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated in any weight-division partly due to the tear the two fighters have been on respectively, but also due to the fact that it’s been such a long time coming.

Ferguson and Khabib had been scheduled to fight four times in the past but a mixture of injuries and weight-cutting issues meant that a bout never came to fruition.

So does Ferguson believe a fight between himself and the lightweight champion is cursed?

“Don’t even put the words out there,” Ferguson said. “Don’t even get the fans going on that sh*t. I want the encouragement. Everybody that was like, ‘Ah this is a curse,’ f*ck you! Don’t buy our stuff, we don’t want you. Go watch Bellator or some other bullsh*t.

“Go find some knockoff copy of what we’ve got going on here. These are the OGs. I’m original genius and these guys right here, they want to try and be gangster and sh*t like that. Hey, you’ve got to answer to me, Khabib. Right here, toe to toe motherf*cker, and we’re gonna go.”
