Leon Edwards Outclasses RDA, Calls Out “Weasel” Jorge Masvidal

Leon Edwards made it an impressive eight victories in a row San Antonio, Texas on Saturday night as he outclassed Rafael Dos Anjos in the welterweight main event of UFC on ESPN+ 4.

Edwards, in what was arguably his toughest test to date, continued to impress on the biggest stage as he looked a level above his Brazilian opponent throughout the five rounds clinching the victory via a unanimous decision.

The cards read 50-45, 49-46, and 49-46 thanks to “Rocky’s” dominance which comes off the back of two other solid victories at 170lbs over Donald Cerrone and Gunnar Nelson in his previous couple of fights.

The 27-year-old dictated the pace of the fight from the off as he took down RDA in the first round dominating on the ground before showing he could stand with the former lightweight champion in the opening two rounds.

Dos Anjos struggled to build any kind of momentum throughout the fight as Edwards excelled at closing the distance using the clinch well in the third before catching a flying knee attempt in the fourth and turning it into an impressive takedown.

The final round was dominated again by Edwards as he outworked Dos Anjos on his way to another victory, with only champion Kamaru Usman with 10 wins in a row, ahead of him in the division’s most impressive streaks.

Following the bout, Edwards took to the mic and proceeded to call out a familiar foe in Jorge Masvidal, whose star has risen since his history-making KO of Ben Askren at UFC 239.

Masvidal and Edwards previously got into an altercation backstage at a UFC event in London and Edwards clearly feels that he has a score to settle with “Gamebread.”

“I’m on an eight-fight winning streak in one of the hardest division’s in the sport,” Edwards said. “There’s a little weasel called Jorge Masvidal. Accept the fight and let’s do it.

“You’re not on my level. Let’s make the fight happen. Me, Jorge Masvidal. Let’s make the fight happen.”

A fight between the pair would be an intriguing matchup but judging by his responses on Twitter it’s clear that Masvidal is more interested in an immediate title shot as opposed to settling his beef with Edwards.
