Frankie Edgar Out Of UFC Denver As Korean Zombie Gets New Opponent

Former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has been forced to pull out of the main event of UFC Denver against Chan Sung Jung, aka ‘The Korean Zombie’ due to a bicep injury.

ESPN’s Brett Okamoto first reported the news of Edgar’s injury also outlining that the UFC have already found a new opponent for Jung in the shape of featherweight prospect Yair Rodriguez, who will step in on short notice.

Rodriguez who is 10-2 is still considered a tremendous up and coming talent in the 145lb division and began his UFC career with a six-fight win streak before being defeated by the man he replaces on November 10th, Frankie Edgar, at UFC 211 in May 2017.

The 26-year-old had reportedly been cut by the UFC after supposedly turning down a string of fights, but worked out his difference with the organisation before pulling out of a scheduled bout with Zabit Magomedsharipov in August.

Jung defeated Denis Bermudez in his last fight in February 2017 by KO which was his first bout in just under four years, as he now looks to make his way back into featherweight title contention.

Although Edgar did have to pull out of the event, which is in Denver to celebrate the UFC’s 25th birthday, ‘The Answer’ reportedly does not need surgery on his bicep injury and is looking to fight as early as January of 2019.

UFC Denver’s co-main event features a welterweight showdown between Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone and Mike Perry.
