Any Weight Will Do As Edgar Responds To Conor McGregor Call-Out

UFC veteran and former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar has responded to Conor McGregor’s comments about a potential fight between the pair outlining that he will do it at “any weight class.”

McGregor and Edgar have both occupied the featherweight division in their prime but despite The Notorious One’s rise to the 145lb throne he never crossed paths with the former 155lb king.

Edgar, who was recently defeated as he challenged Max Holloway for the featherweight title, may be coming towards the twilight of his career, but he is still a potential opponent McGregor has his eye on.

Speaking during a 40-minute in-depth interview with ESPN’s Ariel Helwani, McGregor outlined that Edgar is one of the options for a return bout with The Notorious One full of praise for the former lightweight champion.

“Frankie Edgar is also up there because he has similarities to Khabib, he runs on the back foot and shoots on the single leg.

“I want these types of similar bouts and also Frankie has been very respectful.

“Frankie has always been respectful. he said he wanted to tell his grandkids he fought Conor McGregor one day, and for me to hear that, ask Dana (White), for me to hear that, this is going back many months and I messaged Dana straight away and said that’s the fight to make.”

McGregor could see a clash with Edgar as the perfect tune-up fight before a rematch with his October conqueror Khabib Nurmagomedov – should he defeat Dustin Poirier – but there’s no doubt that it would be a fantastic spectacle given both men’s contribution to the sport.

Edgar took to Twitter to respond to McGregor and despite The Answer’s imminent move to the bantamweight division, he would fight the former two weight world champion at any weight class, any time.

“You know I’m down to fight. It should have happened a long time ago. I know I’m going down to Bantamweight but for you any weight class will do. Anytime any weight class you know I’m game.”
