Another well known fighter in the UFC has jumped ship to Scott Coker’s promotion.
Roy ‘Big Country’ Nelson (22-14) has signed a multi-fight contract with Bellator, Ariel Helwani announced via Twitter on Friday.

The rotund 40-year-old was a firm fan favourite during his 18-fight stint with the UFC. Having won the tenth series of The Ultimate Fighter, ‘Big Country’ went on to amass a 9-10 record with the company.
While he may not have broke fully through to the upper echelons of the heavyweight division, Nelson still held notable victories over Stefan Struve, Mirko Cro Cop and Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva.
Nelson gained a cult following for his trademark pot-bellied appearance and heavy hands. Unfortunately, although he was a black belt in BJJ, he never fully maximised his skill set.
More often than not, he was willing to engage in ‘slobber knockers’ when a more cautious approach may have suited. He also clashed with UFC president Dana White over a controversial incident with ref John McCarthy following a vicious KO of ‘Bigfoot’ Silva (video below).
Nelson’s UFC run ended with a unanimous points defeat to Alexander Volkov back in April.
