It looked to be playing out as the all-time classic many had expected it to be, however, a controversial doctors stoppage gave Tony Ferguson a TKO win over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 238.
The pair went back and forth throughout an entertaining first round and drew huge applause from the crowd when they dug their heels in and swung for the fences to close out the first round of the fight.
The second continued in a similar fashion with both men marching forward. Ferguson seemed to wobble Cowboy at one point but the veteran recovered. Controversy ensued though when Ferguson landed a late blow after the bell had rung to finish the second round although, referee, Dan Miragliotta had not yet stepped in.
"We can throw it back."

The fight was then controversially stopped before the third round began as doctor’s examined Cowboy’s eye which completely shut. It was later revealed that the veteran fighter blew his nose at the end of the second round which led to the closure of his eye.
Speaking to Joe Rogan after the fight Cowboy said:
“I just asked if they could push the air back down. That’s all I wanted.
“That was the fight I think everybody wanted. I’m so sorry. I don’t quit. I don’t back down. Man, I just wanted to keep fighting. I was just asking, ‘Can you just push the air back down?’ You’re right: I shouldn’t have blown my nose. I’m a veteran, I’m old school, and I should’ve known that. But I did, and I humbly couldn’t finish the fight, and I apologize.”
As for Ferguson, he paid homage to Cowboy after the fight claiming that he doesn’t like to win that way and that they can run it back in the future.
"I don't like to win that way, he's a hell of a fighter."
"We can run it back, I don't care who is next!"
Could we see Ferguson vs Cerrone again?!
