Khabib Dismisses Talk Of Rematch With Conor McGregor

UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov has dismissed rumours of a rematch with Conor McGregor at a press conference ahead of his fight with interim lightweight champion Dustin Poirier.

Earlier this month Dana White confirmed that McGregor had returned to training in the hope of a rematch with the Russian.

Khabib is currently serving a nine-month ban for his role in a brawl with McGregor’s team that broke out following his fight with the Dubliner last October.

He is due to fight Poirier (25-5-1) as the main event on UFC 242 on September 7 in Abu Dhabi.

When asked if a rematch with McGregor was on the cards, Khabib insisted he was focused on his upcoming fight and that the Notorious One isn’t deserving of another bout.

“The last three years he has only one victory and amateur boxing. How does he deserve a rematch?” Nurmagomedov asked. “He tapped. He begged me, ‘Please don’t kill me.’ Now he’s talking about a rematch?

“Tony Ferguson [is] on the line. People who have win streaks [are] on the line. But not the guy who don’t win nothing the last three years. … Right now I’m focused on Sept. 7.”

The unbeaten Dagestani fighter will face a tough test with Poirier who has defeated a murderer’s row of lightweight contenders in his last four fights recording wins over the likes of Eddie Alvarez, Anthony Pettis and Justin Gaethje.
