Although Conor McGregor is generally regarded as the master of mental warfare in the world of MMA, most would agree that he has never psychologically rattled anyone as much as he did Jose Aldo.
Initially scheduled to face off at UFC 189, Conor McGregor and Jose Aldo traveled around the world in order to promote the fight. Although that tour featured a number of infamous moments, a brilliant clip has now come to light illustrating just how serious the Irishman takes the mental aspect of the fight game.
Stepping up to face off with Aldo, McGregor realises that the Brazilian did not bring his belt for the stare down and decides to immediately zero in on the slip up.
‘You forgot your belt,’ McGregor repeats again and again before then concluding; ‘It’s a mental sign. It’s ok, it’s a mental sign,’ suggesting that, fearing defeat, Aldo had already mentally parted company with his UFC title.
‘He hasn’t wanted a hold of that belt for the whole trip. He wants it away from him. You haven’t wanted to hold it. Translate that for him.’
