Derrick Lewis may not know his opponent’s name too well but he definitely didn’t take kindly to receiving Aleksei Oleinik’s meals this week.
Derrick Lewis is set to share the Octagon with Oleinik on Saturday night, in the main event of UFC Fight Night 174, and there was obviously some confusion among those looking after the athletes on fight week.
With Covid-19 protocols in place to protect the fighters, meals are being sent to those competing on the fight card and Lewis was surprised to see his opponent’s food arrive at his doorstep on Wednesday.
Lewis, who is known for his social media antics, decided to “season” Oleinik’s dinner ahead of the heavyweight clash.
“I see the UFC Performance Institute gave me my food but they also gave me Aleksei’s food too,” Lewis tweeted, before struggling with his opponent’s last name.
“So I believe it’s missing some ingredients. We’re still going to get him his meals because it’s very important on fight week.
“It looks good but that meat should be well done. I like my meat well done. So I’m going to add some flavour to his food.”

Lewis proceeded to spit three times in Oleinik’s dish and while the food is unlikely to ever reach the mouth of the Ukrainian-born grappler, it’s a clear message that Lewis doesn’t respect his upcoming opponent.
‘The Black Beast’ returns to the Octagon after earning a unanimous decision win over Ilir Latifi in February.
His opponent, Oleinik, is coming off one of the most important wins of his career, having claimed a split decision victory over former UFC heavyweight champion Fabricio Werdum.
Two of the most interesting heavyweight contenders headline a card that also features the likes of former UFC middleweight king Chris Weidman, UK prospect Darren Stewart and performance of the night specialist, Beneil Dariush.
