A legendary venue in Madison Square Garden will play host to future legends of the UFC on November 12 as UFC 205 takes place in New York City.
Keen as ever to avoid the ‘Just Bleed‘ mentality when promoting their events, the UFC’s media team have outdone themselves on this particular occasion. Airing during UFC 204 in Manchester, England, ‘Live Like Legends’ sees the best fighters in MMA descend on the Big Apple for the very first time.
With MMA itself only being legalised in the state of New York earlier this year, the home of boxing is long overdue a visit from the UFC – and the arrivals seen below will comprise no less than three title fights.
Polish duo Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Joanna Jedrzejczyk will take their civil war Stateside, as the latter defends her women’s strawweight championship.
In the hotly-contested 170lb. division, Karateka sensation Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson finally gets his chance on the big stage against Tyron Woodley, who of course dethroned the inimitable Robbie Lawler back in July.
The main event sees featherweight champion Conor McGregor on the cusp of history, as he challenges 155lb. lightweight title holder Eddie Alvarez.
Holding two UFC belts at once would be an unprecedented achievement for the Irishman, and doing so at combat sport’s most iconic venue would see November 12, 2016 go down in the annals of MMA greatness. Considering the supporting cast of the likes of Donald Cerrone, Frankie Edgar and Chris Weidman though, UFC 205 will accomplish that feat regardless.
Tremendous promo for 205. Very well done, UFC. Still feels surreal that this is all really happening at MSG next month.
