The consensus among their peers favours the Brazilian.
Fellow UFC and MMA fighters have given their verdict on how the fight on July 11 will go between Champion Jose Aldo and challenger Conor McGregor. In particular, former heavyweight Champ Frank Mir gives a great insight into how the fight might be won and lost.
Fighters such as Urijah Faber, Luke Rockhold, Felice Herrig, James Moontasri and Max Holloway are backing Scarface to get the job done, while only Christos Giagos is fully confident of seeing Notorious dethroning the King. The rest see it as too close to call. Rockhold makes a pertinent point in that McGregor’s dynamic striking style leaves him somewhat vulnerable defensively, and in contrast to Dustin Poirier, who couldn’t take advantage of that, the much more hard-hitting Aldo could make the opportunity count. On the other hand, Giagos makes the point that Conor’s superior reach (fun fact: it’s longer than that of heavyweight Mirko Cro Cop) and inimitable style will give him the edge.
