The welterweight champion appeared on FOX Sports’ ‘UFC Tonight’ programme, where the McGregor question was thrust upon him.
Going by an interview he conducted last night, featherweight champion Conor McGregor is fully intent on moving up a huge 25lbs. to the 170lb. division, where ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler sits atop the pile.
According to sources, McGregor plans on winning a third UFC world title at July’s UFC 200 event if he can get past Rafael Dos Anjos next month.
UFC tonight host (and light-heavyweight champion) Daniel Cormier asked Lawler straight out what his thoughts were on the Irishman stepping up to the considerable 170lb. plate.
“If Conor does come up to 170, is he biting off more than he can chew? Robbie, will you smash Conor McGregor if he goes to 170?”, Cormier brilliantly asked.
As Conor is easily one of the most controversial characters in the sport’s history, asking most fighters this question would see a ferocious response, with the fighter in question frothing in anticipation of getting his hands on the Irishman (or indeed, a ‘red panty night’). Not known for his trash-talk skills, Lawler was diplomatic, yet confident about a potential superfight.
“I’m gonna concentrate on myself, you know how I fight. I just go out there and try to take people’s heads off and finish people. So whoever the UFC puts infront of me I’m gonna try and take them out.
