BREAKING: Daniel Cormier Out Of UFC 197 Rematch With Jon Jones

UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier has been forced to pull out of his title defence against nemesis Jon Jones on April 23 at UFC 197.

Rumours circulated last week that the 205lb. champion was spotted at a wrestling tournament ‘barely able to walk on his left leg’.

It has now been confirmed, first by BJPenn.com, and then the likes of Ariel Helwani, that Daniel Cormier has indeed suffered a leg injury.

The news will come as a cruel blow to Jon ‘Bones’ Jones, who was forced to relinquish his title last year after a much publicised hit-and-run incident. Most believed that if the UFC 197 main event was in jeopardy, Jones would actually have been the likely culprit.

Hit with no less than five tickets for driving misdemeanours last week, Jones was in danger of violating his probation, but was cleared by a judge to fight at UFC 197 later this month.

Attention now turns to the future, with two hopeful possibilities being mulled over. The first would be the replacement of Daniel Cormier by contender Anthony ‘Rumble’ Johnson, who was set to face Jones last year before the latter’s legal woes.

There’s been no word from the heavy hitter as of yet.

The second, depending on the severity of the injury, is the option to postpone the confrontation until the blockbuster UFC 200 event in July. UFC president Dana White revealed earlier this week that the co-main event hasn’t been finalised yet, which could accommodate the DC/Bones showdown.
