Dana White Confirms Khabib Nurmagomedov Vs Tony Ferguson Will Go Down At UFC 223

UFC 223 finally has it’s main event set in stone after much speculation.

The merry-go-round of the UFC lightweight division featuring lineal champion Conor McGregor, interim champion Tony Ferguson, and perennial contender Khabib Nurmagomedov has threatened to make a mockery of the weight class, with the latter duo having to respectively pull out of multiple scheduled bouts against each other, and a healthy McGregor not defending his belt 14 months after winning it.

The UFC’s refusal to strip the Irishman of the 155lb. belt saw the saga drag on, with Khabib, following his UFC 219 win over Edson Barboza last month, heavily linked with a McGregor fight despite Ferguson’s status as the genuine number one contender.

Now UFC president Dana White has gone a long way towards clearing up the situation.

The promotion’s boss has announced that following reports in recent days, Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov will indeed face each other at UFC 223 on April 7 in Brooklyn, New York.

Speaking on the Toucher and Rich show, White told host Nick Cattles that ‘El Cucuy’ and ‘The Eagle’ will finally fight.

What’s unclear at this moment is the status of McGregor’s lineal belt. There was no mention made of stripping the Notorious one of the title he won at UFC 205 back in 2016. As such, that would mean this upcoming blockbuster would be for Ferguson’s interim championship.
