Weili Zhang Open To 125lb Clash With Valentina Shevchenko

The newly-crowned women’s strawweight champion of the world Weili Zhang has made her wish to fight the dominant 125lb queen Valentina Shevchenko known.

As the first Chinese UFC champion, Zhang was able to absolutely run through Jessica Andrade in under a minute to score one of the most impressive title-winning finishes we have ever seen – beating Bate Estaca down with a barrage of beautiful knees and elbows.

Speaking to the media in the wake of her incredible victory, Magnum spoke about her desire to headline a major event in her home-country in the near future.

“I think they all want to fight me because I’m a champion. I can defend several times, maybe for a long time, because I know all my opponents very well. I can beat them.”

“Yes, I would like to get on a pay-per-view event, but I also want a pay-per-view event to hold in China. This is my wish. If Dana wants me to fight in the U.S. it will be fine, but please get all my corners a visa because last time my corners didn’t come. Several corners could not come because of a visa issue.”

On top of that, Zhang appeared to be open to taking on the sitting women’s flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko in a cross-divisional super-fight.

In a time where it really doesn’t appear that The Bullet will be challenged by any of the current 125lb crop, one would have to assume that her biggest challenges will likely come from beyond.

And while she would certainly give up size to the former bantamweight title-challenger, the idea of facing Shevchenko is one that appeals to the Chinese fighter.

“Yes, definitely, I can do that. As a fighter I always want to challenge myself.

“For me, every great fighter is willing to fight, so I would like to challenge those great fighters.”
