Featherweight contenders collided in an absolute war on the UFC 232 main-card as Alexander Volkanovski blasted through Chad Mendes for a brutal TKO win.
And while it lasted, it was a fantastic firefight between two featherweight fighters who mirrored each other on a physical level and matched each other for intensity from the off.
Mendes came into the octagon that night with much more in the way of top-level experience – having been in there with some of the greatest 145lb-rs to ever do it, but it was Volkanovski who was able to weather the storm thrown at him by the Team Alpha Male veteran.
He showed true championship potential with this performance – TKO’ing the former title-challenger with a brutal onslaught in the second-round after eating some of Mendes’ best shots.

According to widespread rumours doing the rounds today, Mendes has announced his retirement from the sport of mixed martial arts shortly after the fight.
If true, he will bow out with a pro-record of 18-5 – losing only to José Aldo, Conor McGregor, Frankie Edgar, and, of course, the victorious Volkanovski – who moves to 19-1 as a pro and 6-0 in the UFC.
