Watch: Top British Prospect Marc Diakiese Submitted By New Zealand’s Dan Hooker

Britain’s Marc Diakiese dropped his second defeat in a row after being submitted by the former featherweight Dan Hooker at UFC 219 last night.

The formerly-unbeaten British prospect Marc Diakiese has seen his form of late take something of a dip following his original rise in the UFC. ‘Bonecrusher’ was 3-0 and had pulled off a genuine Knockout of the Year-contender during his win over Teemu Packalen earlier this year but in his last two outings has been on the losing side.

His most recent matchup before last night, a showdown with the highly-rated Drakkar Klose, saw Diakiese pushed in a way that hadn’t been before – leading the judges to score the fight in Klose’s favour by way of split decision.

We all know what the Englishman is capable of, though. As one of the most creative and dynamic strikers around, he brings many unpredictable and varied kicks to the table as well as some genuine knockout power but of late, it seems as though his opponents have started to get his number.

The good thing is that Marc is that he is 24-years-old and with time on his side, could easily spend another year or two honing his craft before getting anywhere near a ranked-opponent.

Dan Hooker proved himself to be the better man when he met Diakiese at UFC 219 on Saturday night. After a rather tepid affair, to begin with, Hooker was able to use his long limbs to secure a gullotine choke in the third-round, pulling off his second consecutive win since stepping up from 145lbs.

Time is well and truly on Diakiese’s side though, and while this setback is not ideal, his youth and undeniable athleticism will allow this young man to go back to the drawing board and take the necessary steps to avoid a repeat occurrence.
