The controversial Canelo/GGG judge Adalaide Byrd made her return to the scorecards at last night’s UFC 222, her first outing since her disastrous showing at September’s super-fight.
UFC 222 was the event and the mood turn positively giddy for those sitting in the commentary booth when play-by-play announcer Jon Anik noted that the night would feature the return of the infamous judge Adalaide Byrd.
Byrd, who is best known to most as one of the judges who scored last September’s Canelo Alvarez vs. Gennady Golovkin, turned in one of the most incredibly misguided scorecards of all time in that bout, seeing it as a 118-110 to Alvarez when virtually nobody else would dream of attempting to justify that as a score.
Of course, we now have a rematch between two of boxing’s very best, set for Cinco de Mayo this year, but still, Byrd’s reputation managed to take an irreparable hit.
At UFC 222, she made her return to the scorecards and already, managed to cause a bit of a fuss with her scoring.
The team in the commentary booth, Jon Anik, Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier managed to poke some pretty hilarious fun at Byrd in the middle of a fight she would go on to divide opinion on just minutes later and in all honesty, it’s absolutely great TV.
