SBG Ireland’s striking coach Owen Roddy gave his take on the rumours linking Conor McGregor to a cage-side appearance at UFC 223 this weekend.
With us now just a matter of hours away from UFC 223’s fight-week one of the most widespread talking-points surrounding the event has been the level of involvement we will see from the UFC’s lightweight champion Conor McGregor.
Earlier this week we delved into the UFC’s decision to book Artem Lobov for a spot on the night’s undercard and the role that may play in McGregor’s future and with the pairing of Tony Ferguson and Khabib Nurmagomedov in the main-event, it really is starting to look as though they have something special up their sleeve for Saturday night.
On paper, it’s a stylistic matchup for the ages and a collision of two of the most in-form fighters on the roster today. Both men have been vying for a shot at the undisputed title for some time now and the while the stakes – as far as championship honours are concerned – aren’t 100% clear and official, it does appear as though Conor’s long but inactive reign atop the 155lb division is coming to an end.
Coach Owen Roddy spoke to Express.co.uk about McGregor’s plans to attend UFC 223 and while he doesn’t exactly say it outright, he appears to hint that things will be made a lot clearer in the Irishman’s future come April 7.
