SBG Ireland coach Owen Roddy has released some truly amazing unseen footage of Conor McGregor’s walk to the Madison Square Garden octagon at UFC 205 back in November.
UFC 205, by all accounts, was a resounding success. Everything from the atmosphere to the venue itself did nothing but elevate the already-prestigious fight card to another level entirely. It would have all been for nothing, however, had the fight themselves not delivered – and boy did they deliver!
Brutal finishes from Yoel Romero (by flying knee) and Khabib Nurmagomedov (by kimura) kept the fans happy for a while, but not before the trio of main event fixtures stole the show entirely.
The women’s strawweight title was contested by the champ, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Karolina Kowalkiewicz, a battle between two Polish warriors that was at times a truly thrilling contest. Both women had their moments and though it was Joanna who remained champion, Karolina earned herself legions of fans through a combination of elite technique and unquestionable guts.
The 170lb belt was then on the line as Tyron Woodley took on the famed karate-expert Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson in the second-billed fight. Again, the crowd were enthralled by the show that these two welterweights put on, with both men showing tremendous skill and heart in equal measure – something that was, unfortunately, lacking somewhat in their rematch at UFC 209.
Of course, it was the ‘Notorious’ Conor McGregor who stole the show, however, as he put on one of the all-time greatest title-winning performances to steal away the lightweight belt from Eddie Alvarez.
The moment McGregor stepped into that sold-out MSG arena has already been elevated to near-iconic status and now, SBG Ireland’s striking coach Owen Roddy has given us an even closer look at the amazing moment, as he released some exclusive footage of Team McGregor’s walk to the Madison Square Garden octagon that night.
