UFC 218 headliner José Aldo is not a man usually known for his comical side but at a recent interview in the leadup to his next fight, he managed to serve us an absolute goldie.
I feel like a lot of people’s opinions of the former two-time UFC featherweight champion of the world José Aldo changed quite a bit following his time spent occupying the villain role is his dynamic with the immensely popular Conor McGregor but truth be told, you may well be introduced to a new side of José with this one.
A lot of the negativity that the fans felt for Aldo following his UFC 194 loss to Conor McGregor was, of course, in part brought on by the Brazilian’s unwillingness to accept his defeat but in the leadup to his UFC 218 pairing with Max Holloway, there seems to be a sense of calm in him that we haven’t encountered before.
Perhaps his humbling at the hands of Holloway taught him something about the game he wasn’t aware of before and as a result of that, he has been a more modest version of himself in this build-up.
In a recent interview with BJPenn.com, José was asked about his weight-cut and the very noticeable effects it had on him as he weighed in, something he countered with a response that just needs to be seen to be believed.
It’s hard to know how much of this was a miscommunication between Aldo and his interpreter, but judging by the look on José’s face, it’s not hard to see that he’s having a bit of fun with this one.
