Jake Shields has been a friend and teammate to the Diaz brothers for years and expects both of them to fight inside the octagon once again in the near future.
It seems like an eternity has passed since we had anything resembling clarity on the future of the brothers Diaz, Nick and Nate, but in recent times, with their respective periods of inactivity passing into the ‘years’, there has been reason to believe that things are finally looking up for those who cannot wait to see these guys in action once again.
Nick, who hasn’t fought since 2015, lost out against Anderson Silva in his last outing but recently became eligible to fight once more following a USADA whereabouts violation that saw him given a one-year ban from all competition. Not that he was actively trying overly hard to get back into the octagon but fans have rejoiced at the fact that he at least has the option to once again.
Nate, of course, reached a new level of fame when he was involved in a pair of thrilling welterweight contests with the sport’s biggest star Conor McGregor and while his issues with returning are not based on him being sanctioned, he does appear to be content to wait on a fight that would earn him yet another huge payday, no matter how long it takes.
Their long-time training partner Jake Shields spoke to Ariel Helwani on a recent edition of The MMA Hour and gave his take on the famously unpredictable siblings and if we’re honest, it’s about as positive an update as one could hope for, all things considered.
