Ronaldo ‘Jacare’ Souza managed to overturn some early momentum from Chris Weidman to get his man out of there in the third-round.
Jacare was seemingly down on the scorecards to the former-champion Weidman before getting the job done in the third.
For what it was worth, ‘The All-American’ looked fantastic at first, frequently touching up his Brazilian adversary with jabs while controlling the fight’s tempo. Souza was able to persevere, though, working his opponent’s body before turning the heat up considerably in the final round.
When he finally got the job done, it was not without some controversy, though.
Catching his man clean with enough force to call it a night, Souza relented from punishing Weidman any further until referee Dan Miragliotta made it clear that the fight was not finished.

It was a career-high win for Souza and perhaps the one that finally gets him a shot at the title. Middleweight made up four of the five main-card fights, though, so who knows how the division will look by the time the rankings come out next week.
